Banner Health Network is an American health system, situated in Phoenix, Arizona. The health system operates 28 hospitals and numerous specialized facilities within different states. The organization is the main employer within Arizona, and among the major employers in the US, with more than 50, 000 staff members. The organization provides hospital care services (inpatient and outpatient), hospice care, home care, nursing registries, rehabilitation centers, residential care, surgery centers, and laboratories (Banner Health, 2020).
Organizational Readiness to meet Health Care Needs
Banner Health Network has been growing steadily since its inception in 1999. The organization continues to increase the number of branches within the United States to increase its ability to serve the number of increasing patients. The mission of Banner Health is to provide quality patient and the provision of high-quality care is that guides the operations of the organization (Banner Health, 2020). Professionalism is the key to Banner Health as the organization puts efforts to nurture healthcare providers to ensure they understand the continuously evolving health system. To maintain the best standards, Banner Health has developed a training program where nurses, monitor technicians, and other interprofessional members are trained on how to use technologies, and especially the monitor tracings. After training, the staff members are evaluated to assess their skills across various treatment modalities and settings (Banner Health, 2020). The organization also continues to grow its innovation network to make a positive impact on healthcare. According to the management of Banner Health, developing further network systems will help the organization to reach out to an additional number of patients. implementing network system development policies will also improve coordination across all branches and at the same time improve healthcare patterns. A vast network for the organization equates to better healthcare and better information sharing among healthcare providers; this is important for the growth and development of the organization (Vogenberg, 201). The training of its healthcare providers and other professionals is also aimed to improve competency for its staff and further facilitate organizational growth.
Every branch of Banner Health has a manager who bears the responsibility of managing the specific branch. The human resource manager at the headquarters has the duty of hiring employees. The organization relies on many contracts to make sure that healthcare providers have the required supplies to provide high-quality care (Banner Health, 2020). Banner Health also has analytics that helps the organization in managing the contracts to decrease supply chain costs. However, the organizational structure keeps changing and this reduces the confidence of the employees regarding job security.
The organization has more than 50, 000 staff members. The staff members include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other interprofessional who are dedicated to providing high-quality care to the clients. Banner Health has training programs where nurses, monitor technicians, and other interprofessional members are trained on how to use technologies. This ensures that the staff members are up-to-date with the latest technologies and the latest practices (Mthiyane & Habedi, 2018).
However, Banner Health healthcare providers need to invest in research to ensure the provision of evidence-based care. Evidence-based care leads to the provision of high-quality care and better patient outcomes, which increases patient satisfaction (Woo et al., 2017).
Banner Health has built its repute on excellent patient care, and it is a leading provider of healthcare in the community it serves. The organization has gained national recognition for quality outcomes and patient safety allied to the population health management. High-quality care, good patient outcomes, and increased patient safety increase patient satisfaction. The organization also offers electrocardiography (ECG) monitoring to examine the electrical activity in the hearts of the patients and also utilizes fetal heart monitors to monitor the heart rates of the fetus throughout the pregnancy, labor, and also during delivery. Investing in such aspects continues to increase patient satisfaction. Current/Potential Issues in the Organizational Culture
The culture of Banner Health is entrenched on innovation where the organization is continually implementing HIT solutions, whereas also fostering innovation and new ideas around future development (Banner Health, 2020). The innovative culture has enabled the organization to serve its customers better and increase efficiency in the organization’s operations.
However, there are minimal interactions among the employees because of the technology. Lack of interactions among the staff reduces collaboration and teamwork and may also demotivate the staff. For example, some employees from the organization noted that they have little support from the managers and their immediate supervisors and this includes after training. This may lead to the hinder the staff from acquiring the skills and knowledge often gained through nurturing and mentoring from the supervisors (Sibiya et al., 2018). Finally, since Banner Health serves diverse populations, the organization needs to train its staff on cultural competency to ensure they provide culturally competent services.
Model/Theory to Support the Implementation of the Strategic Plan
The appropriate model to support the implementation of the strategic plan is the Lowa model. The rationale for selecting the Lowa model is because it emphasizes collaboration implementing the proposed changes and the changes are supported by the best available evidence (Newell & Burnard 2016). To implement the strategic plan using the Lowa model, a team consisting of experts in the relevant fields should be formed to spearhead the implementation. This team should retrieve and grade the evidence to support the implementation of the strategic plan. The evidence-based standards are then developed and the plan implemented as per the available evidence. After the implementation, it is important to evaluate the strategic plan to examine the successful implementation.
