Hamilton Community Health Network (HCHN) is a non-governmental organization whose key goal is to provide complete and quality care to individuals in the whole of Genesee County. This health organization was established in 1982 to react to health problems of low income earners in the community whose medical needs had not been met. The organization also creates awareness to the individuals about the significance of taking healthcare insurance.

Some of the trends that the organization has adopted are the use of electronic medical records. Presently, the organization stores information electronically because it is required by law that they should store data electronically. Information can be stored in the form of emails, word processed documents, and databases. HCHN uses an electronic management system to ensure that all information in the organization is stored electronically (Hamiltonchn.org, 2014).  The organization also hires qualified and skilled workforce to help in the provision of quality services to their clients. Its key objective is to ensure that their clients receive quality services. The organization is addressing this issue by ensuring that all workers in the organization are assigned specific duties that make delivery of services easier.

The historical factors that precipitated the need for change was complaints from their clients about the quality of services that they received.  The complaints included receiving poor quality services from nurses and physicians. Additionally, there were several mistakes that would be made in the process of handling patients. For instance, too much paper work would make physicians to give a wrong diagnosis to the right patients. This posed a great risk to the health of various individuals. Change is inevitable and therefore there was a need for the organization to make use of advanced and modern technology in order to offer effective services. The changes that were made include adoption of the electronic record system and a systematic review of workers during the hiring process to ensure that they recruit workers with competent skills. Advantages Recognized from the Changes

Improvement in the quality of services delivered. For instance, the correct diagnosis was given to the right patient. Secondly, changes like the use of electronic health record would reduce too much paperwork for workers, hence enabling them to concentrate on delivery of services (Healthit.gov, 2014). It would also save time when it comes to finding health records of a specific patient because one would only be required to log in detailed information and get full information. For instance, a physician would forward a list of drugs to be given to the patients in the chemist and this would make the patients to be served very fast.  It would also be advantageous to patients because they would be in a position to access their health records even when at home. Furthermore, the use of an electronic health system would result in a reduction in medical errors, improvement in the safety of patients, and it would provide a stronger support when it comes to decision making. A CDS system would help a physician make decisions about patient care. For instance, giving present information about a drug, and finding out if the patient is allergic to any drug.

Disadvantages recognized from the Changes

It was costly for the organization to execute the information management system. The startup expense is high when changing a pen and paper system to an electronic health record. It served as an additional expense to the organization (wiseGEEK, 2014). Health information of patients is supposed to be confidential, but with the use of an electric record system, their health information would never be confidential because an individual with another patient’s details would be in a position to access another patient’s information (Healthit.gov, 2014). This privacy concern is a major issue with the majority of the individuals until it is dealt with for good. Furthermore, it can lead to unemployment among some workers.
